The Final Count Down
On Thursday, 2 May, the eNCA hosted its final Town Hall Debate in Soweto, putting the ANC, DA and EFF front and centre for 90 minutes of hard-hitting debates.
This was disrupted by the United Democratic Movement (UDM) invading the stage with placards, in protest of the eNCA being biased by inviting only the ANC, DA and EFF to debate.
The eNCA reasons that it took an editorial decision to invite only the top three parties of the 2014 election.
Castor Semenya Loses Court Case
The Court for Arbitration of Sport (CAS) has ruled that the IAAF’s (International Association of Athletics Federations) ruling regarding Castor Semenya will stand and recommended that Semenya be medicated for certain races if she wishes to be eligible to participate.
Semenya has found herself needing to make a decision that will change her athletics career. Multiple experts have weighed in on the recommendation and explained that the medication will have extremely detrimental effects on her athletic performance.
Numerous petitions have been started as the public, including many celebrities and organizations, pledge to support the athlete. Semenya’s legal team has approximately thirty days to appeal the CAS decision.
Driving Debacle
According to the Tansport Minister, Blade Nzimande, demerits on drivers' licenses could soon be made a reality through legislation, waiting to be signed by the President.
According to Nzimande, drivers will start every year on 12 points and deductions will be made according to the drivers' behaviour.
Stopping Crime
On 2 May, the Gauteng police seized counterfeit goods worth R28,7-million in Johannesburg CBD and arrested a total of 142 wanted suspects.
The suspects were wanted for various crimes such as rape, robbery, hijackings, possession of unlicensed firearms, dealing in drugs and murder.
All 142 suspects are set to appear in various Magistrate Courts in the coming weeks.
